TAX EVADERS DETECTED BY FBR
FBR officials said the Directorate General staff conducted a raid and seized 15 consignments of imported goods worth about Rs 25 million cleared by Customs authorities without payment of actual duty and taxes to the tune of Rs 12 million. Whereas FIRs have been lodged against the importers, clearing agents and the customs officials involved in this attempt of fraud.According to the details, the chairman FBR directed the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation FBR to enhance surveillance of all importing stations. On January 26, the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation FBR received information that some un-scrupulous importers were involved in import and clearance of miscellaneous dutiable items from BOML (Off-Dock Terminal) through gross mis-declaration/non declaration of description, PCT, quantity and value to evade a huge amount of custom duty and other taxes. Accordingly, the Directorate General Intelligence & Investigation FBR stepped up surveillance and detained 15 consignments of miscellaneous items, which were ready for delivery after they were cleared by Model Customs Collectorate (MCC), Appraisement Karachi.
These consignments were imported by 13 commercial importers namely M/s Musani Enterprises, M/s AMR Enterprises, M/s Rehman Impex, M/s MS Enterprise, M/s FA Enterprise, M/s Farhaj Enterprises, M/s JR International, M/s Jessani Steel, M/s Zorain Enterprises, M/s Sohajee Shaikhjee & Sons, M/s MY Iqbal & Co, M/s Zafar & Sons and M/s AZ Enterprises and the same were cleared through 02 clearing agents namely M/S All World (Pvt) Ltd and M/s. RS International.
The goods were cleared by MCC (Appraisement) on false declarations made by the importers and clearing agents in the Goods Declarations (GDs). Goods were declared as adult diapers, citrus juicers, earth moving machinery parts / liner kits, diesel engine replacement parts / oil pumps, fuel pumps, chair parts, etc, and cleared by staff of MCC (Appraisement) without verifying declarations through physical examination of the goods. However, physical examination of the goods by the staff of the Directorate General, revealed miscellaneous dutiable, un-declared items like baby diapers, blue tooth, mobile chargers, watches, watch parts, lithium watch batteries, sun glasses, optical frames, pad locks, plastic beads, motor cycle parts, cosmetics, CCD cameras, gift sets, ready made garments, TV kits, fly backs, etc in the goods. Moreover, the consignments also contained restricted items like satellite receivers, LNBs and satellite dishes.
