ECP invites 15 mainstream political parties
The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has invited 15 mainstream political parties for a demonstration of electronic voting machines and giving them a briefing on different issues related to the ECP on February 22.
An ECP official told Daily Times that the ECP had invited the representatives of 15 political parties for the third time to discuss different issues, including financial matters of the ECP. He said that a demonstration of six voting machines would be held on February 22 and 23 at the ECP central office. The official also said that the ECP would consider purchasing a building for its district offices as the local offices were being run in private buildings. He said that the buildings would be purchased through funds provided by the Kerry-Lugar law. It is worth mentioning that in the Kerry-Lugar law fund, a sum of $ 9.5 million has been allocated for the assurance of a free and transparent ECP. The official also revealed that with the help of NADRA, revision of electoral rolls-2007 would be completed by December 31, 2011 and a formal announcement of the final publication of electoral rolls-2012 would be made on January 1, 2012.
