Valentine Day celebrated in Multan

MULTAN,Feb 14th:Valentined day was celebrated in Multan and other cities of Southern Punjab On the eve of Valentine’s Day, markets in Multan turned red, as shopkeepers expected  for the huge sale on the Valentine’s Day (today).
Flower shops were packed with red roses, whereas balloons, chocolates, jewellery and accessories, all heart-shaped items are almost present in every shop.but sale was less than their expectations which made them dismal.Religious scholars and a number of rightest organisation launched a drive against the people who were celebrating the day. Clerics called it a "Yum-i-Awargi" and demanded imposition of ban on celebrating the day  .Price hike had broken the back of common man and they took less interest in purchasing this year, people of all age groups bought specific items related to this Day but in small quantity. “It is not restricted to teenagers or any specific gender only. I have observed, grownup men spend more as compared to teenagers,” he said, sharing his experience of past four years.The shops around the city are full of all kinds of hearts. Big and small hearts, hearts held by teddy, heart pencils, frames cushions, bags, gift bags, and heart-shaped packing chocolates. The biggest heart was available for around Rs1,500 whereas the smallest one was for Rs 350.
“The heart-shaped items and greeting cards were sold ,” said a shopkeeper Most of young lovebirds in and around the city were found praying to God to make weather fair enough to celebrate Valentine’s Day, as Pakistan Metrology Department forecasted that the current spell of rain would continue till February 16.Majority of youngsters who met this scribe were looking dejected. They said last year too they were unable to celebrate this day because of coinciding V-Day on Sunday. So because of holiday, they were restricted to move and to enjoy this day at its fullest in outdoor activities. They were of the view this time though it was Monday and they were free to hang around the city but weather was a constraint.
