PPP devised five point strategy to play its role in Punjab

MULTAN,The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has devised a five-point special strategy to play the role of an active opposition and give a tough time to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government and the Sharif brothers.
A meeting of the party leadership was held in Islamabad that was attended by the provincial leadership, former provincial ministers and active legislators from the Punjab Assembly. The central leaders of the party discussed the prevalent political scenario with the participants. The Punjab office-bearers of the party gave a view of the political situation and the areas where the PML-N could be frustrated, while the deposed ministers gave a briefing regarding their departments. The ministers also apprised the participants of the meeting about the financial situation of Punjab. The legislators discussed the areas which could be highlighted in the assembly session to put the PML-N in a defensive mode. After long deliberations, the meeting finalised a five-point strategy to be adopted in Punjab aiming at mobilising the party, motivating the masses and giving a tough time to the PML-N, particularly the Sharif brothers. However, the central leadership of the PPP emphasised not to take a step that could harm the policy of reconciliation.According to the five-point strategy, a 20-member group had been formed that would lead the campaign and give a guideline to the party workers, legislators and office-bearers in Punjab. Among others, PPP Punjab President Imtiaz Safdar Warriach, Punjab Secretary General Samiullah Khan, Parliamentary leader in the Punjab Assembly, Raja Riaz, former finance minister Tanveer Ashraf Kaira, Labour Minister Ashraf Sohna and Shaukat Basra are the members of this core group. The PPP has decided to motivate the party workers and create a sense of awareness among the masses about the government’s failure in providing relief to the general public, which would be addressed by the central leadership, federal ministers and the Punjab office-bearers. Also, it was decided that the federal ministers would frequently visit Punjab, especially Lahore, to engage the media and get space in the print and electronic media.
The party has decided to set up a research cell at the provincial level that would evaluate the performance of the government departments and prepare a ‘fact sheet’ that would be provided to the party leaders to be used in press conferences and by the MPAs to be highlighted in the assembly sessions.
The research cell would also work on the affairs of the Sharif brothers and find lacunas in their businesses, tax matters and facilities being used by them. The cell will especially focus on the facilities being given to those who are not entitled to them. This material would also be provided to the party leadership and provincial legislators to be utilised in assembly and public gatherings.A public awareness campaign would also be launched and public meetings would be arranged in different parts of the province that would be addressed by the federal ministers and local leadership of the PPP.
In the Punjab assembly, a special group of the PPP legislators will take up the matters of law and order, price hike and political instability on the floor. This group would take a hard stance and agitate such points, especially when leader of the House, Shahbaz Sharif, would be present either in the House or in his assembly chambers.
A group of the party workers would target the Sharif brothers and highlight their irregularities in the media and corner meetings.
