CHIEF MINISTER ALLEGES PUNJAB IS BEING VICTIMISED
MULTAN,Feb 28th:Terming the lack of implementation on the PML-N’s 10-point agenda the last nail in the coffin of the Charter of Democracy (CoD), Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Mian Shahbaz Sharif has said that the PPP government tore apart the pledge signed by Mian Nawaz Sharif and Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto to end corruption, bring about transparency and provide relief to the masses.
The CM said that the PML-N supported the PPP against public aspirations, but the federal government did not bother to make slight progress on the demands made in the interest of the country and the general public.Mian Shahbaz Sharif said that instead of implementing the national agenda, the PPP leaders continued to threaten the Punjab government to prevent the expulsion of their ministers from the provincial cabinet. Referring to the statement by Sindh Home Minister Zulfiqar Mirza regarding closing the PML-N offices if the PPP ministers were expelled from the Punjab cabinet, the CM said that these people always use coarse language even in response to a decent talk. He said the PPP ministers refused to quit and that’s why a summary for their removal has been sent to the governor as per their own aspirations.
Mian Shahbaz said that the gas supply to the province was suspended intentionally to malign the Punjab government. As a result, he said, the industries were closed and the poor deprived of their means of livelihood. He said that he wanted to make it clear to the president to stop such dramas.
Referring to the Raymond Davis issue, he said the court would decide the matter in accordance with the law. He said that no compromise would be made with regards to law and justice.Paying rich tributes to Hameed Nizami, the CM said that he was a history-shaping personality and his name is written in golden letters due to his contributions in the struggle for the creation of Pakistan. He said that Hameed Nizami always upheld truth and honesty and launched a newspaper at the instructions of the founder of Pakistan, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
Mian Shahbaz said that Majid Nizami is also following in the footsteps of his elder brother. He said that Majid Nizami has always struggled for the country fearlessly and for setting up of an Islamic welfare state, and faced all challenges steadfastly without any compromise.
He said that the PPP did not care for the CoD when General Musharraf was given indemnity or Hajis were exploited or the National Insurance Company was looted. He questioned why the CoD was ignored when the governor’s rule was imposed in Punjab; in a province where there had been no target killings or corruption scandals. He said that democracy was restored in the country after a long struggle and sacrifices, but it was not revived to enable a few corrupt to plunder national resources and deprive the people of basic amenities.Mian Shahbaz said that foreign aid is never unconditional. He said that Saudi Arabia, Turkey and China are such friendly countries who have helped Pakistan unconditionally, but others have imposed their terms and conditions. He said that there is a need for giving up reliance on foreign aid and work with honesty and zeal for self-reliance and ensuring a dignified status for the country. He said that collective efforts will have to be made for transforming Pakistan into an Islamic welfare state in accordance with the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam and Allama Iqbal. The Punjab CM said that President Zardari had threatened him during a meeting that Justice Dogar should be given three years’ extension, else we (the Sharif brothers) would be ousted from politics. He said that he had made it clear to President Zardari that it was not possible for him to do so as with the grace of Allah, we (the Sharifs) would continue to face him.
Referring again to Raymond Davis, the CM said that the American had shot dead two persons in Lahore and the Punjab government had registered a case against him under section 302 and sent him to a police station at a time when neither any procession had taken place nor any demand was made for action. Contrary to it, he said, Pervez Musharraf had surrendered at a telephone call from his foreign masters and what happened later to the country is a tragic tale the people continue to suffer from.
